Cellulite is a topographic skin change that occurs in most post-pubertal females. It presents as a modification of skin topography evident by skin dimpling and nodularity that occurs mainly in women in the pelvic region, lower limbs, and abdomen, and is caused by the herniation of subcutaneous fat within fibrous connective tissue, leading to a padded or orange peel–like appearance. Cellulite is a description rather than a physical object.

Cellulite is the term used to describe the appearance of dimpled skin of the lower limbs, abdomen, and pelvic region. This is caused by fat deposits that are just below the surface of the skin. It usually occurs after puberty. Cellulite occurs in both women and men, but it is more likely to be found in women.
